"Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking."

- Marcus Aurelius

Meditations

Marcus challenges the common belief that happiness requires external accumulation - more money, status, possessions, or experiences. Instead, he locates the source of contentment within our own minds and attitudes. This doesn't mean we shouldn't pursue goals or enjoy material things, but rather that our baseline happiness shouldn't depend on acquiring them. The essentials for a good life are surprisingly simple: basic health, meaningful relationships, purposeful work, and inner peace. Beyond these basics, satisfaction becomes primarily a matter of perspective and appreciation. By changing how we think about our circumstances, we can find contentment with what we have rather than constantly seeking more.
