"Remember that very little disturbs the wise person. It is not because they are insensitive, but because they know what deserves their attention."

- Marcus Aurelius

Meditations

True wisdom involves developing excellent judgment about what deserves our emotional investment and what doesn't. The wise person appears undisturbed not because they lack feeling but because they reserve their emotional energy for things that truly matter. They don't get upset about traffic, weather, other people's opinions, or minor inconveniences because they recognize these as either temporary, uncontrollable, or ultimately insignificant. This selectivity allows them to respond with full engagement when something genuinely important occurs - a moral choice, a relationship need, or an opportunity to help others.
