Stoic Concept
Apatheia
Freedom from destructive emotions and passions.
Often misunderstood as emotionlessness, Apatheia is actually freedom from destructive emotions (passions) that cloud judgment and disturb peace. The Stoic sage experiences appropriate emotions but is not ruled by anger, greed, fear, or excessive desire. It's emotional intelligence and resilience, not emotional suppression.
