Stoic Concept

Dichotomy of Control

Distinguishing between what we can and cannot control.

The most practical of Stoic principles, the Dichotomy of Control, divides the world into two categories: things within our power (our judgments, intentions, actions) and things outside our power (everything else). Wisdom, happiness, and tranquility are found by focusing all our energy on the former and accepting the latter with equanimity.
