Stoic Concept
Eulabeia
Appropriate caution based on accurate assessment of real dangers.
Eulabeia is healthy caution that comes from correctly understanding what can actually harm us - primarily our own vicious choices. Unlike phobos (irrational fear), eulabeia is proportionate, useful, and doesn't disturb our peace. This rational caution helps us avoid genuine dangers while not being paralyzed by imaginary threats. It's the emotional response of someone who understands the difference between what can truly hurt us and what merely appears threatening.
