Stoic Concept
Hegemonikon
The ruling or governing part of the soul; the rational mind.
The hegemonikon is the command center of human consciousness - our capacity for reason, judgment, and choice. It's what makes us uniquely human and what we must develop to live well. The health and proper functioning of the hegemonikon determines the quality of our entire life. Stoic practice is fundamentally about strengthening and purifying this governing faculty.
