Stoic Concept
Phantasia
Initial impressions or mental representations of external objects.
Phantasia are the initial mental impressions we receive from external stimuli - our first, automatic mental representations of what we perceive. These impressions are neither true nor false in themselves; they become problematic only when we add judgments or interpretations to them. Understanding phantasia helps us recognize the difference between what actually happens and our interpretations of what happens.
