Stoic Concept
Hexis
A stable disposition or settled state of character.
Hexis refers to the settled dispositions and character traits that develop through repeated practice. Unlike temporary states or occasional behaviors, hexis represents deep, reliable patterns that persist across different situations. Developing positive hexis is the goal of Stoic training - creating habits of virtue that become second nature. This includes not just external behaviors but internal responses, emotional patterns, and ways of thinking that consistently reflect wisdom and virtue.
