Stoic Concept
Stoic Temperance (Sophrosyne)
Self-discipline and moderation in all aspects of life.
Temperance is one of the four cardinal Stoic virtues, representing self-control and moderation in desires, emotions, and actions. It's not about suppression or denial but about finding the right balance and avoiding extremes. The temperate person enjoys pleasures without being enslaved by them, feels emotions without being overwhelmed by them, and pursues goals without becoming obsessed. This virtue helps us maintain our freedom and dignity by preventing our impulses from controlling our choices.
