Stoic Concept

Sympatheia

The interconnectedness of all things in the cosmos.

Sympatheia is the Stoic belief that the universe is a single, unified organism, and all its parts are interconnected. This means every individual is a member of the cosmic whole and the human community. Recognizing this connection fosters a sense of collective responsibility, empathy, and the understanding that what is good for the whole (the beehive) is good for the part (the bee).
